[Note, I am aware I did not do horror, but I will soon, I just wanted to do a xmas themed post today.]
"Santa Claus is coming, to town...!". That song, is what basically shaped modern Christmas as we know it. I did some research on the topic of santa claus, and it appears he is less than 100 years old. Contradictory to the movie " Arthur Christmas", which states that santa has been around for hundreds of years, in reality, he was originally just an old christmas tale, like frosty or Rudolph from today. Once the song "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" was written (around 1930), his popularity skyrocketed. Now for the actual topic, the true meaning of Christmas. Yes, you have heard about 20 different holiday specials say a very similar thing, to be nice to others and be with you family, or something around those lines. Yes, this is a good moral, and we should all do it around this time of year, but is that the true meaning of this huge holiday? Let's star with the Santa fact, less than 100 years old, but one song, made him a huge icon, and a huge factor in industry. If santa never had become as famous as he is today, the whole holiday, originally about the birth of Christ, might be forgotten. More importantly to the companies making all the santa and Christmas themed products, no extra money.(Warning, the next stuff might be a bit more Scrooge-like than I wish it to be.) Why do big companies love Christmas, more things being bought, of course. But the current Christmas, not the religious version, was basically created because of industry(music). The Christmas songs, the christmas gifts, the icons, all made by companies. So the true meaning of this holiday? I don't think there is a meaning to this holiday, but a reason. Companies just want to make more money. Now wait, I still have one more thing to talk about before you get mad at me for trying to ruin Christmas. Why do I, and everyone else, go along with this huge marketing "trick" It's because everyone wins. Children don;t have to pay for all/most of the gifts and merchandise around Christmas, so they are happy. But why are the adults happy?(Scrooge-ness ends here) Two reasons. One, they most likely have a job or are married to someone who has one, a lot of them are probably doing something that has Christmas themed things, so more money for them. But the other reason is that well, just like students do, they get some time of work for the holiday, even if they don't celebrate, so this holiday usually just makes everyone pretty happy. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, and hate the endless attack of Christmas related merchandise, you cans still enjoy they pleasant and usually happy, time of year. Oh, I almost forgot, Merry Christmas(Or Hanukah or Kwanza or whatever you celebrate)!
[Another note, a lot of the views expressed here are my opinion and not solid fact, so don't say that it is not true, because you can't say that about opinion, just like if you said something different than what I said]
